Oracle Database Administrator, Global
Support a large number of Oracle datbases and their associated instances and applications, residing on a variety of open systems and hardware (Sun Solaris, UNIX, and Windows), and OS390. The databases supported are large and complex in nature. These databases must be installed, created, modified, designed and redesigned, sized, backed up, and tuned. Application programming support in the form of advice and troubleshooting is provided to applications personnel and end-users, and DBAs work closely and communicate with a wide range of individuals including clients, end users, programmers and analysts, other DBAs, and System and Network Administrators.
SCOPE: The scope of this task is to provide Oracle database administration support to achieve an extremely high degree of availability for all Oracle databases supported, as required by specific client service level agreements and to ensure 24x7 availability, troubleshooting, and tuning to ensure aaceptable response times. The primary applications supported will be for the EDB/ESR, IVM and NED programs, but additional applications may be supported, as they are developed/implemented, depending on the needs of the organization.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: Bachelor's degree in related field and 9+ years related database administration experience, with a minimum of 3 years of Oracle 8i, 9i, 10g, and 10gAS experience. Experience required with the upgrade and migration of an Oracle database from one major release (9i) to another major release (10g). Requires knowledge of Oracle tools such as OEM, to measure database performance. Requires demonstrated knowledge of Logical Database design and Physical Database implementation. Must have proven capability to support Software Development environments with multiple databases and also support Production systems with backup and Disaster Recovery planning and implementation. Requires knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI) to manage and promote changes from development to production.
The candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks;
a) Install/tailor new releases of and upgrades or patches to ORACLE database and associated product software.
b) Review performance of ORACLE databases on the open systems platforms and provide and implement recommendations for improved performance.
c) Create and maintain ORACLE entities, including but not limited to instances, databases, table spaces, and tables in support of administered databases.
d) Make changes to the structure of ORACLE meta data and work with Customers in support of application changes.
e) Write, modify, and debug ORACLE SQL and PL/SQL queries.
f) Work with System and Network Administrators in support of administered databases.
g) Diagnose and correct problems that occur within ORACLE databases and application interfaces.
h) Develop, with client input, and implement backup/recovery and disaster recovery strategies.
i) Provide support for high availability using recognized industry and ORACLE techniques, including support for ORACLE Real Application Cluster (RAC) and replacement strategies.
j) Work with database security.
k) Provide management with requested information regarding ORACLE databases.
l) Provide on-the-job training and information transfer to database administrators.
m) Coordinate all work with the application programmers, systems programmers, and database administrators assigned to coordinate the applications, databases, and hardware platforms.
n) Write, execute, and analyze benchmark programs to test proposed new hardware or software features.
o) Respond to Callback and serve as the initial point of contact for system failures, and ensure and coordinate the resolution and correction of production failures.
p) Quantify ADP and database capacity for both present and proposed utilization.
q) Install, test, and utilize third-party database tools.
r) Manage DASD requirements for new databases.
s) Provide documentation and to other staff on all activities.
DESIRED SKILLS: Certified Oracle Professional, UNIX System Administration skills are a plus.
